Project Overview

Currently, 3D printers and rapid prototype machines are the two most common examples of additive manufacturing systems.  Both are very similar in their fundamental operation, but 3D printers are typically smaller. Both convert Computer Aided Design (CAD) models to code that controls their motors, heaters and extruder to create a physical 3D model. To date, these products have been geared towards a generic, small quantity/specialty manufacturing and prototyping market.  3-Dreamers felt that a product designed for a unique, currently unaddressed market could receive wide market acceptance. Therefore, the RAPTER is being designed as a portable 3D printer designed for use by the service market. The product being designed is intended to be carried in a service truck and operated using the vehicle’s auxiliary power supply.
